About Phrasey

Phrasey is a free daily word game. Everyone gets the same hidden phrase each day: a well-known idiom, saying or everyday expression. Uncover it one letter at a time and solve it using as few letters as you can.

How to play

  1. Read the category above the board. It's your only hint.
  2. Pick letters. A correct letter reveals every copy in the phrase. A wrong letter costs a strike.
  3. Solve the whole phrase whenever you're ready. A wrong guess costs two strikes, and six strikes ends the game.

Questions

When does the new phrase arrive?

At midnight in your own time zone. Everyone on the same calendar date gets the same phrase.

How is my score calculated?

Your score is the number of letters you picked, right or wrong. Solve attempts don't add to your score, but each wrong one costs two strikes. Lower is better.

Can I play more than one phrase a day?

Yes. Once you've finished the daily phrase, unlimited play gives you as many extra phrases as you like. It's just for fun: unlimited games don't affect your daily stats or streak.

Does my answer have to match exactly?

No. Capitals, spaces, apostrophes and other punctuation are ignored. Only the letters have to match.

Is my progress saved?

Yes, in your browser only. There are no accounts, so your streak and stats stay on this device. Clearing your browser data resets them.

Do you collect any data?

Only anonymous visit counts, with no tracking cookies and nothing that identifies you. There are no accounts or ads, and your guesses and stats never leave your browser. See the privacy page.
